Bob Jastrab began his tenure as Head Football Coach of the Mounties in 2005. He is one of the most respected and successful coaches in the community college ranks. In 2014, he became the first football coach in California community college history to capture 100 wins in 10 seasons or less. His overall Mt. SAC Head Coaching record sits at 179 wins and 45 losses with a .799 winning percentage. He has been named Conference Coach of the Year eight times, as well as being named State Coach of the Year twice, Regional Coach of the Year of the Year five times and the American Football Coaches Association National Coach of the Year once in 2010. Since taking over as Head Coach in 2005, he has lead the Mounties to:

  • 2 Community College National Championships
  • 3 California State Championships
  • 7 Southern California Championships
  • 14 Conference Championships
  • 13 Bowl Game Championships
  • An incredible record of 179 wins and 45 losses (.799 winning percentage – 07/09/25)
  • Transferred hundreds of student/athletes to the 4-year level

Coach Jastrab guided the Mounties to the 2024 3C2A State Championship game—marking their first appearance in the title game since they won it back in 2014—where they finished as state runner-up after an impressive 12-1 season that included both conference and regional titles. The year prior, the Mounties went undefeated in the regular season, won the conference, and reached the semifinals.

Following the COVID-19 disruptions, Jastrab quickly rebuilt the program, leading the team to a 9-2 record in 2022 and an 8-3 finish in 2021.

The Mounties also had standout seasons throughout the mid-2010s. In 2017, they went 8-3, upsetting No. 2-ranked Riverside City College to earn a share of the conference title and extend their streak to 12 straight bowl appearances. The 2016 team posted an 8-3 record as well, narrowly missed the playoffs, but won their 11th consecutive bowl with a 27-3 win over College of the Canyons.

In 2015, Mt. SAC captured its 10th straight bowl win and ninth conference title, edging Golden West 29-27 in the Patriotic Bowl.

2014 was a landmark year with the Mounties winning their fourth 3C2A State Championship, beating San Francisco City College. They also secured their sixth Southern California title and ninth straight bowl win. That season, Jastrab earned his 100th career victory.

From 2007–2013, the Mounties enjoyed a dominant run. They won back-to-back state and national titles in 2009 and 2010, and made their fifth consecutive state title appearance in 2011. In 2010, Jastrab was named National Community College Coach of the Year by the AFCA. Each year during that span, the team consistently earned bowl wins, conference titles, and sent dozens of players to four-year programs.

After 11 years as an assistant coach at Mt. San Antonio College, Jastrab was named head coach in 2005. Over the years, he has held several roles within the program, including associate head coach, offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, and offensive/defensive line coach.

Jastrab began his coaching career at Mt. SAC in 1989 before joining the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) as a graduate assistant in 1993. During his time with the Rebels, UNLV captured the 1994 Las Vegas Bowl with a win over Central Michigan. He later served as offensive coordinator at Damascus High School in Maryland, helping lead the team to the 1996 3A State Championship. Jastrab returned to Mt. SAC in 1997, contributing to the Mounties’ undefeated season and a sweep of the state and national community college titles.

A standout lineman at Edgewood High School in West Covina, Jastrab was named to the Los Angeles Times All-Valley Team in 1980. He went on to play at Mt. SAC for two seasons (1982–83), earning Mountie of the Year honors and Community College All-American recognition. He continued his playing career at the University of Miami (1984–85), where he was part of Fiesta and Sugar Bowl teams. As a player, he learned under several legendary coaches including, Jimmy Johnson, Howard Schnellenberger, Butch Davis, Gary Stevens, Bill Fisk and Mal Eaton.

Jastrab holds a B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Miami and a master’s in kinesiology from UNLV. A full-time professor of physical education at Mt. SAC since 2000, he has also served as Assistant Athletics Director and Head Badminton Coach.

He lives in La Verne with his wife Barbara and their two sons, Joshua and Sean. Outside of football, Jastrab enjoys golfing and traveling.
