(Walnut, CA) With the regular season winding down, the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team remains on a roll, as they won their ninth out of the last ten matches.

The Mounties swept visiting L.A. Harbor, 3-0, in a South Coast Conference match Wednesday (Oct. 27).

With the win, Mt. SAC improved to 15-5 overall and 9-3 in the conference. The Mounties remain in second place, behind the undefeated Pasadena City College.

The 25-15, 25-21, 25-13 sweep was the seventh in the conference for the Mounties and twelfth overall on the season.

Michelle Walters (4 Digs) led the Mounties with 11 kills, followed by eight from Riley DeGroot (5 D, 1 Service Ace) and seven by Allison Whiteman (3 D).

"I think our right sides (Walters and Whiteman) really shined this game," Mt. SAC Women's Assistant Volleyball coach Danielle Diaz said. "They were given tons of opportunities and did a great job at executing.

"When we played (LA Harbor) the first time around, we felt that we can take advantage of their serve receive and I thought our girls did a great job at doing that again by serving tough and getting them out of their system.

"I am very proud of their performance and excited for them to continue to work hard and improve every week as we get closer to closing out conference play."

The Mounties have three SCC matches left, with the next match at home, Tuesday (Nov. 2).

Kylie Rhodes (8 D, 2 SA) and Ally Euston (1 D, 1 SA) led the Mounties with 15 and 13 digs, respectively.

"I think we got a lot of great "ups" (sets) by "Re" (Setter Riannel Arevalo)," said Whiteman, of a season-high 27 digs by Arevalo. "She did an amazing job of getting the balls ups and gave us a lot of chances to get more kills going. That was really great.

"These next couple of games are really important. If we keep our winning streak, we'll be second in conference."

In the first-set win, Mt. SAC took an early10-3 lead when outside hitter JJ Quarrels was serving when the Mounties scored five consecutive points.

DeGroot had three kills in the set and Rhodes finished off the win as she dumped the ball just over the net for the winning point.

The second set was closer in points, with neither team leading by more than three, up until a big 7-1 run by the Mounties.

They led, 15-13, and pushed it to a 22-14 advantage on a kill by Walters. Harbor came back with a late 7-3 run but a net error by the Seahawks gave the Mounties the 25-21 win.

The third set was all Mounties, as they had an early, 6-point, 10-4 lead and ended with a 10-3 run, highlighted by consecutive kills by Raeven Pugh and DeGroot for the match win.
