(Walnut, CA) Tuesday, April 13, 2021 will mark a milestone in Mt. SAC Tennis History when the women's team will play their first home match in 5 years. This will also mark the first competition in the new state-of-the-art Mt. SAC Tennis Facility, which was completed in 2020, but had not been used due to the CoVID-19 pandemic. It will also mark the home debut of new Mounties Men's and Women's Head Tennis Coach Lee Shiomoto.
"The teams and I are honored and proud to bring tennis back to Mt. SAC," replied Tennis Head Coach, Lee Shiomoto. "The new facility is phenomenal in every aspect. I would especially like to thank everyone who has helped guide me with this wonderful teaching opportunity. We promise to play hard and do our best to uphold the high Mt. SAC standards."
The one unfortunate downside of the Mounties return home is that spectators will not be allowed. Current CoVID-19 health regulations for Institutes of Higher Education, do not allow for spectators or visitors to college/university campuses. Updates on and changes to this regulation will be posted to the Mt. SAC Athletics Website.
The new facility features nine hard courts with LED lighting, spectator seating, restrooms, wind screens and storage facility.
Although the Mounties have continued competing, their last on-campus home match (both men's and women's teams) was on April 5th, 2016 at the old tennis facility. The previous courts were removed to make way for the new Business and Computer Technology Center (buildings 77, 78 & 79) , located across the street on the main part of campus. During construction of the new tennis facility, the Mounties were forced to rent tennis facilities at Cal Poly Pomona and Citrus College.
The Mounties are currently scheduled to play three additional men's and 5 additional women's home matches during the shortened CoVID-19 2021 season.
