(Walnut, CA) No. 4 seed Mt. SAC (16-2-5) turned a scoreless first half into a 2-1 victory over No. 12 College of the Canyons (14-5-1) in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regionals on Tuesday. The win runs the Mounties' unbeaten streak to 18 games, which started following a 2-0 loss to San Diego Mesa on Sept. 10 and includes five ties.

Alyssa Williams put Mt. SAC on the board first against Canyons with a goal in the 51st minute on an assist from Karissa Vela. Williams put the hosts up, 2-0, in the 60th minute on an assist from Deanna Rojas. The Cougars cut the lead to one in the 62nd minute but got no closer than that.

Mt. SAC will travel to Whittier to take on No. 1 seed Rio Hondo (17-1-2) in the next round on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. The game will determine which team advances to the CCCAA State Championships, which take place at Mt. Neither team has scored a goal in the previous matchups, though the Mounties did capture the South Coast Conference Tournament title on penalty kicks, 4-2, in their most recent contest against each other on Nov. 12.
