Ventura comes from behind to spoil Mounties' home opener

(Walnut, CA) Leading 2-1 at halftime, host Mt. SAC (1-1) surrendered a pair of goals in the second half to drop its home opener, 3-2, to Ventura (1-0) on Sunday.

Jacquelynn Coronado got the Mounties on the board first in the seventh minute of play on an assist from Isabella Valderrama. After the Pirates knotted the score in the 29th minute, Kaylee Gutierrez scored an unassisted goal to put the hosts up 2-1 in the 41st minute. Scores in the 47th and 69th minutes gave Ventura the win.

Goalie Leila Peregrina played all 90 minutes in goal for Mt. SAC, allowing three goals and making four saves.

The Mounties will open the 2021 Mt. SAC Nike/Azteca Tournament on Friday, September 3, at home against Lake Tahoe (0-0) at 4 p.m.
