(Oceanside, CA) After missing the 2020 season due to the pandemic, the Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team popped the cork on a new season with a 2-0 win over host MIraCosta (0-1) on Friday.
The Mounties (1-0) took the lead in the 45th minute of play when Adriana Romero found the back of the net on an assist from Kayla Allen. Teammate Isabella Valderrama added an unassisted insurance goal in the 69th minute.
In 90 minutes, Mt. SAC goalkeeper Leila Peregrina held the Spartans scoreless with three saves.
Friday's match marked the first for co-head coach Rachel Schmid who will share coaching duties with men's head coach, Juan Sanchez.
Next up, the Mounties open their home schedule with a non-conference contest against Ventura (0-0) on Sunday, August 29, at 6 p.m.
