Phoenix, Ariz. – The Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team opened the 2025 season on the road Saturday, August 23, where they fell 6-2 to a fast-starting Phoenix College squad.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Phoenix wasted no time putting pressure on the Mounties, scoring just three minutes into the match. The Bears went on to add three more goals before halftime, taking a commanding 4-0 lead into the break.

Mt. SAC responded early in the second half, with Jon Jay Joseph scoring in the 47th minute off a well-placed assist from Caleb Perez. However, Phoenix quickly shut down any momentum, adding two more goals in the 50th and 61st minutes.

Despite the deficit, the Mounties continued to push, and Alfonso Ramirez netted a late goal in the 89th minute with an assist from Joseph Prado, capping the scoring at 6-2.

Tensions ran high, resulting in yellow cards for Samuel Bruno and Joseph, while Perez was sent off with a red. In goal, Cody Lindeman started the match, allowing two goals and recording two saves, while Edson Mendez finished the game with four saves and four goals allowed.

Though outshot, Mt. SAC made the most of their limited chances—scoring on both of their shots on goal.

NEXT UP:

The Mounties return home for their next match on Friday, August 29, when they host Lake Tahoe (1-0) at 7:30 PM as part of the Nike/Azteca Soccer Tournament.
