(Walnut, CA) On a day when the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer team was presented its 2016 CCCAA State Championship banner, the team performed like champions and shut out Pasadena City College 3-0 in a South Coast Conference North game Friday evening October 6.

Prior to the game Mt. SAC Athletic Director Joe Jennum presented Head Coach Juan Sanchez, who was surrounded by his team, with the banner which will be displayed at the soccer complex.

The banner will be added to the four previous state titles, which also includes two National championships.

The Mounties wasted little time in scoring as sophomore forward Sam Ponting scored his fifth goal of the season in the 2nd minute on an assist from sophomore forward Michael Gonzalez.

The team leader in goals, sophomore forward Andre Gamboa, gave Mt. SAC a 2-0 lead in the 35th minute on an unassisted goal.

The second half, which saw five yellow cards handed out, Mounties sophomore defender Carlos Loreto, on an assist from sophomore midfielder Alexis Diaz-Paya, scored his first goal of the season in the 90th minute for the 3-0 final.

Mt. SAC freshman keeper Diego Orellana (2 saves) and sophomore goalie Edwyn Gutierrez (5 saves) both preserved the shutout for the Mounties in the net.

With the win the Mounties upped their overall record to 9-1-2 and 2-0-1 in conference.

Mt. SAC continues conference play at Chaffey College on Tuesday October 11 at 2:00 pm.
