The Cerritos College baseball team opened the South Coast Conference season with a 5-0 loss against host Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday. The Falcons (5-8, 0-1) will now host the Mounties at 2:00 p.m. at Kincaid Field on Thursday in their second of a three-game set.

Over the course of the game, Cerritos did have several scoring opportunities, and left five runners in scoring position. In the top of the first inning, freshman second baseman Joseph Rivera (Savanna HS) was hit by a pitch and advanced to second base on a passed ball, but was stranded. In the second inning, freshman pitcher Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second base on a one-out single from freshman shortstop Jacob Valdez (Katella HS). The two would remain on base, as the Falcons could not advance either runner.

At the same time, the Mounties scored a single run in the bottom of the first inning and added three more runs in the fourth inning and eventually chased Robinson (1-2) in the sixth inning.

Offensively, Cerritos collected just four hits and have scored just one run in their last two games after scoring 24 the game before. Freshman outfielder Johnny Martinez (Katella HS) led the team with a pair of hits.
