Tammy Knott-Silva joined the Mt. SAC Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance Division Family in November of 2019.  She will help lead the division as the Associate Dean and Associate Director of Athletics.

Prior to arriving at Mt. SAC, Silva served in a number of capacities at Pasadena City College (PCC) including Division Faculty Lead/Coordinator (2013-19), Curriculum and Instruction Co-Chair, Academic Senate Representative, Accreditation Faculty Representative, Faculty lead in the development and implementation of the first pathway/meta major for Kinesiology and served on numerous Professional Development and Faculty hiring/priority committees.  She was instrumental in developing the Distance Education and numerous degrees and certificates at PCC. 

Prior to her academic position at PCC, Silva served as a Professor of Kinesiology & Health and the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach for the Lancers from 2006-2012.  During her time as volleyball coach, she turned PCC into a state volleyball powerhouse, capturing 2 South Coast Conference Championships and leading her team to 5 postseason appearances in 6 seasons at the helm.

Along with her coaching duties, Silva served as President of the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA) and as a site director for the 2008 CCCAA Championship Tournament. 

Prior to PCC, Silva served as Professor and Head Coach at Citrus College (2003-2006) where she also transformed the Owls into a women’s volleyball state powerhouse.  During her ten years as head volleyball coach at Citrus College and PCC, she compiled an impressive 168-63 record (.727 winning percentage).

Silva began her coaching career as a grad assistant coach at her alma mater, Southeastern Louisiana University.

Silva prepped locally at Gladstone High School (Covina, CA), where she was a three sport star.  She was named the San Gabriel Valley Girls Volleyball Player of the Year in 1995.  She continued her education at Citrus College were she was a two-time All-Foothill Conference selection, leading the state in kills as a freshman and earning conference MVP honors in 1996.

After Citrus, she transferred on an athletic scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University (1998-2000) competing for the Lions, on the basketball and volleyball teams. 

Silva earned both her bachelors and master’s degrees in Health/Kinesiology from Southeastern Louisiana University. 

She and her husband Shandon, a football assistant coach at Riverside City College, reside in Azusa with their two children, Savanna and Aidan.  Silva’s older brother John Knott is a professor and head baseball coach at Mt. SAC. 

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and attending sporting events.
