(Walnut, CA) In the final Verizon United Soccer Coaches Association Final Junior College DIII Soccer National Rankings both Mt. SAC Teams finished top-5 nationally.  The 2021 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Champion Mountie Men’s Team (19-2-2) finished the season ranked #2 nationally, while the women's team (16-3-6) finished in the #5 slot.

“This is an incredible accomplishment for our soccer programs,” states Associate Director of Athletics Tammy Knott-Silva.  “This is a testament to the hard work of our student-athletes and coaches, along with the support of our college administration and staff.”

The men's team defeated Hartnell College, 2-1, to take their 6th CCCAA State Championship.  The Mounties finished the season with a mere two losses, one of which was an early season, 3-1, loss to top ranked Dallas College-Richland (17-0-1) at the Nike Mt. SAC/Azteca Soccer Tournament (3-1).

The women's team used the momentum of last season, to return back to the CCCAA State Championships after a 26 year absence. The #5 final ranking is the highest position the Mountie Women have achieved since the inception of the national polls.

Along with the United Soccer Coaches final junior college division III rankings, five Mounties earned All-American and All-West Region status including Defender Andre Ramos (Men's 1st Team All-American/1st Team All-West Region), Defender Frida Monsalvo (Women's 2nd Team All-American/1st Team All-West Region), Goalkeeper Jacob Cardenas (Men's 2nd Team All-American/2nd Team All-West Region), Midfielder Gabriel Arredondo (Men's 2nd Team All-American/2nd Team All-West Region) and Forward Edward Castro (Men's 2nd Team All-American/2nd Team All-West Region).

The Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Staff comprised of Head Coach Juan Sanchez and Assistant Coaches Ray Ramirez, Mike Fernandez, Mauricio Barrett, Chris Cervantes, Andy Gutierrez and Frank Bustos, were also named United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division III Southwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Congratulations to the student-athletes and coaching staff of the Mt. SAC Men’s and Women’s Soccer Programs for the greatest combined program season ending rankings in Mt. SAC History!
