(Walnut, CA) The 73rd Annual Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational kicks off this weekend with the Community College and Elementary/Middle School Divisions.  The 2021 edition will run on October 15th, 22nd and 23rd.  The "granddaddy" of all cross country competitions will take place on the renowned Mt. SAC Cross Country Course, which surrounds newly constructed Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

The Community College Division will feature many of the premier programs in the state, including host Mt. SAC.  The Mounties currently hold the state's top men's team ranking and a share of the women's top team ranking.

Sharing the #1 rank with the women is Salinas based Hartnell College.  The Panthers, along with Glendale College (Glendale, CA), the state's #3 ranked program, are scheduled to compete.  The women's invitational race will be a showdown of the state's top three ranked women's programs.  Mt. SAC looks to capture their fourth consecutive Mt. SAC Invite title, dating back to 2017.  Two other "top 10" programs scheduled to compete are #7 College of the Canyons and #8 Saddleback College.

On the men's side, the Mountie Men will also face a tough challenge in Hartnell College, the state's #3 ranked team.  Mt. SAC has won the last five consecutive Mt. SAC Invite titles.  Two other programs who will challege the Mounties and Panthers are #7 Glendale College and #10 Saddleback College.

The following weekend, October 22nd and 23rd, the high school division will feature the state's premier prep cross country programs, as they challenge the celebrated hills of the Mt. SAC Cross Country Course.
