(Sacramento, CA) Former Academic Counselor of Student-Athletes, Evans Roderick will be inducted into the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Hall of Fame at the 2020 CCCAA Spring Convention.  The convention will be held at the Hilton Ontario Airport (Ontario, CA) from March 30th through April 2nd with the Hall of Fame banquet being held on Wednesday, April 1st at 6:00 pm (see “Ticket Information” below to purchase tickets).

Roderick was an integral part of the Mt. SAC community for over 40 years, but made a tremendous impact on students and community college athletics across the nation, in the field of academic counseling.

Affectionately known as “Coach Rod”, he served 21 years as an academic counselor for student-athletes.  During this time he created a model academic support program for California Community College student-athletes and was instrumental in coining the term “grayshirt” to help student-athletes with their academic progress towards transferring to an NCAA Program.

Along with Academic Counseling, he has also served Mt. SAC as an assistant football coach, head track and field coach, assistant track and field coach, and Assistant Director of the Mt. SAC Relays.  He is currently an assistant coach working with the special teams for the Mounties Football Program.

Roderick continues to remain active among student-athlete academic advisors sitting on education boards throughout the nation and as past president of California Community College Academic Advisors Association for Athletics (3C4A).

Prior to arriving at Mt. SAC, Roderick served three years in the U.S. Army before earning a degree in Physical Education from Cal Poly Pomona in 1972.  He played football for both the Army and at Cal Poly Pomona, where he was an all-conference selection (1969 and 1970) and team captain.  He received his master’s degree in Education and Counseling, from Cal Lutheran.

Roderick and his wife, Anita, have two sons, a daughter, and three grandchildren.

Along with Roderick, Moorpark College Coach and Orange Empire Conference Commissioner John Keever, Bakersfield College Football standout George Jones and San Joaquin Delta Coach/Administrattor Ernie Marcopulos will also be inducted.

Roderick becomes the 10th Mt. SAC Mountie to be inducted into the CCCAA Hall of Fame. He will join a legendary group that includes Zelda Bolden, Fred Claire, Mark Crear, Hilmer Lodge, Max Montoya, Antonio Pierce, Don Ruh, Bob Seagren and Don Warren.
