(Sacramento, CA) For the seventh consecutive year, the Mt. SAC Athletics Program was named California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA) / National Association of Two Year Administrators of Athletics (NATYCAA) Cup Champion.  This marks the 9th time Mt. SAC Athletics has captured the prestigious honor in the 16-year history of the award.  The NATYCAA Cup is presented annually to the states' premier overall athletics program based on state championship finishes of each institutions 5 best men’s and 5 best women’s sports.

Along with the NATYCAA Cup California Championship, Mt. SAC has also captured the Daktronics Cup State Associations Division which includes 2-year colleges from California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and British Columbia (CAN).  The Mounties also took fourth place in the Learfield Cup, the nations premier 2-year collegiate athletics program award.

The Mounties scored 162 points, a mere 3 points over runner-up Riverside City College (159 points), making it the third tightest margin of victory.   Northern California leader Fresno City College (152 points) took third with 152 points.

This season, the Mounties captured state championships in Men’s Cross Country and Women's Softball, but also had top three state championship finishes in Men's Swimming (3rd, 18 points) and in Men's Track & Field (2nd, 19 points).  Teams contributing to the Mounties NATYCAA Cup point total include Women's Cross Country (17 points), Women's Track and Field (17 points), Men's Wrestling (16 points), Men's Golf (15 points), Women's Golf (11.5 points), Women's Water Polo (8.5 points).

In his ninth year at the helm of the mighty Mt. SAC Athletics Program, Director of Athletics Joe Jennum continues the Mt. SAC winning tradition set forth by previous athletics directors John Arrambidie, Linda Garrison, John Norton and Deb Blackmore.  With the 2019 Women's Softball State Championship, he becomes the winningest Director of Athletics with 26 CCCAA State Championships under his watch.

"This is another incredible accomplishment that is to be shared by everyone involved," replied Mt. SAC Director of Athletics Joe Jennum.  "Our success is due to the support of the Board of Trustees, our president, college management, professors, staff and fans, along with the tireless work of our coaches, student-athletes and athletics support staff.  It is what truly makes us a championship winning program."

Since its inception (2003-04 season), Mt. SAC Athletics has dominated the CCCAA/NATYCAA Cup Championship.  The Mounties have captured nine championships and have placed in the top 2, an incredible, 14 out of 16 seasons.  For the past ten years, Mt. SAC has either captured the championship or taken second.  Mt. SAC also claims six of the top 10 scores in NATYCAA Cup History and is the only California institution to have back to back titles.
