(Walnut, CA) Over 5,000 youth participated this past weekend (March 22nd and 23rd) at the LA84 Foundation/Mt. SAC Relays Youth Days Track and Field Meet.  The 28th annual event, kicked off the 55th Annual Mt. SAC Relays (the world's largest track and field competition) and was held at Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the Mt. SAC campus.  The Youth Days Track and Field Meet welcomed participants from throughout California and as far away as Campeche, Mexico.

Since 1986, nearly 400,000 youth have been exposed to the Olympic Sport of Track and Field through this program, which also includes instructional Track and Field Clinics for elementary and middle schools.  Each participant at the Track and Field competition receives a free t-shirt, souvenir pin, certificate of achievement and participates in one running, one field and one relay event.

The event would not be possible without the help and support of over 300 volunteers including those from the LA84 Foundation Friends of Sport, Walnut Valley Kiwanis Club, Mt. SAC Circle K Club, Mt. SAC Fire Technology Club, Mt. SAC Caduceous Club, Diamond Bar High School Key Club, Walnut High School Key Club, Walnut Sheriff Explorers and Mt. SAC Athletic Teams (Baseball, Cross Country, Swimming, Track and Field, Water Polo).

The 55th Annual Mt. SAC Relays will continue on Saturday, April 13th with the Community College Division.  The Relays will conclude with the High School, Collegiate and Elite Divisions on April 18th, 19th and 20th.  Numerous stars from the recent Olympic Games are expected to compete and be in attendance including Gold Medalists Allyson Felix (200M/Relays), Ashton Eaton (Decathlon), Carmelita Jeter (Relays) and Brittany Resse (Long Jump).  For more information on the Mt. SAC Relays, please visit the Mt. SAC Relays Website at http://www.mtsacrelays.com
