Eight Members Added To The Mt. SAC Athletics Hall Of Fame

(City of Industry) Eight New Members of the Mt. SAC Athletics Hall of Fame were inducted on Saturday, March 2nd, at the Pacific Palms Conference Resort.  The "Class of 2013" will join a legendary group of individuals that have been inducted into the Mt. SAC Athletics Hall of Fame.  The eight inductees include:

  • Sophia B. Clarke (Meritorius) - Philanthropist and long time supporter of Mt. SAC and Mt. SAC Athletics.    
  • Willie Dancer (Athlete) - High Jumper and Mt. SAC's first National Champion in 1948.
  • Linda Garrison (Meritorius) - Mt. SAC Athletics Director and pioneer of women in athletics.
  • Dr. Ernie Gregoire (Coach) - World Renowned Track and Field Coach and Mt. SAC Dean.
  • Art Mazmanian (Coach) - Legendary Mt. SAC Baseball Coach and Mentor.
  • Pam Newton (Athlete) - All-American Softball Player and nationally recognized player/coach
  • Antonio Pierce (Athlete) - All-American Football Player, Superbowl Champion and TV Sports Analyst.
  • Don Ruh (Coach) - Legendary Mt. SAC Track and Field Coach and Director of the Mt. SAC Relays, Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational and the LA84 Foundation Youth Days Program.

After a 20 year hiatus, the Mt. SAC Athletics Hall of Fame was resurrected in a star studded world class affair, complete with a red carpet entrance for the 250 in attendance.  Hall of Fame Member and Pole Vault Olympic Gold Medalist, Bob Seagren, served as Master of Ceremonies for the event which featured inspirational video biographies, as well as emotional speeches from each inductee. 

The event bridged the gap between Hall of Fame Classes with members of the first two classes (1992 and 1993) also in attendance.  A display area, featuring Mt. SAC Athletics Memorabilia and memorabilia from each of the inductees was also set up in the ballroom to showcase their impact on Mt. San Antonio College.

  • Mt. SAC Trustee Fred Chyr
  • Mt. SAC Trustee Dr. David Hall
  • Mt. SAC Student Trustee Elisa Marin
  • College President/CEO Dr. William Scroggins

Along with the dignitaries, a number of former Mountie Athletic Superstars were in attendance including:

  • Delanie Walker - Current San Francisco 49'ers Star
  • Leonard Russell - Former NFL Running Back / NFL Rookie of the Year
  • Bob Seagren - Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist in the Pole Vault, Television Star
  • Dr. Mark Crear - Olympic Silver and Bronze Medalist in the 110M High Hurdles
  • Pete Williams - Former NBA Star
  • Geoff Vanderstock - Olympian and Former World Record Holder in the 400M Hurdles
