Ron Kamaka has led the Mt. SAC Cross Country / Track and Field Programs since 2013.  During his head coaching tenure, he led the Mounties to a total of 5 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships, was named South Coast Conference (SCC) All-Sports Coach of the Year three times and Men's Track & Field State Coach of the Year once.

The 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons were cancelled due to the CoVID-19 pandemic

Kamaka repeated his Men's Cross Country Title in 2018 and in 2019, led the Men's Track and Field Team to a runner up finish at the state championships.  

In 2017, in his first season as Men's Cross Country Head Coach, he led the Mounties to only their third state title and ended the season (2017-18) with a Men's Track & Field State Championship title in 2018.  

The 2015-16 season was near repeat of the 2014-15 season with Kamaka leading the Mountie Men to a 2nd place finish in cross country and a second consecutive state championship in track & field. 

Kamaka repeated as California Community College Cross Country and Track Coaches Association (5CTCA) State Men's Track & Field and South Coast Conference (SCC) Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year.  He also repeated as the SCC All-Sports Men's Coach of the Year. 

The 2014-15 season was one to remember for Kamaka.  He led the Mt. SAC Men's Track & Field Team to their 10th CCCAA State Championship.  The team also captured the "Triple Crown" by winning the South Coast Conference (SCC), Southern California and CCCAA State Championships.  

During the 2014 Cross Country Season, he led the men's team to a 4th place finish at the CCCAA State Championships and also captured a SCC Championship.

Along with the team accolades in 2014-15, Kamaka was named 2014 SCC Men's Cross Country and 2015 Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year, by his peers.  He was also named 2015 5CTCA Coach of the Year (by his peers) and the 2014-15 SCC All-Men's Sports Coach of the Year by the SCC Athletic Directors.

Along with guiding the overall program, Kamaka’s current focus will be on the Horizontal Jumps and Multi Events.  Through the years he has also worked with the High Jumpers and Hurdlers.  He has guided numerous athletes to conference, regional and state accolades including State Champion Nate Koch (Decathlon), 4X100M Relay and SoCal Decathlon Champions, Mark Horist and Easton Harris.

Kamaka joined the Mt. SAC Family as a full-time professor and Track and Field/Cross Country Assistant Coach in 2006 with a wealth of experience and knowledge in nearly every event. He previously served at Cal State Fullerton for 12 years serving as Assistant Coach (8 years) and Associate Head Coach (4 years).

During his tenure at Cal State Fullerton, Kamaka guided 5 NCAA Division 1 All-Americans and numerous conference and all-conference award winners.  His technical knowledge has been chronicled by NCAA qualifiers such as Brandon Campbell, Matt Turner, Kurt Webber, Joe Thomas and Jonathan Golden in the jumps and former Mt. SAC Pole Vaulter and 2004 Olympian Giovanni Lanaro.

A former California Community College High Jump Champion while at Santa Rosa Community College, he later competed at Arizona State University where he jumped 7’03”1/2 and was PAC 10 Conference Runner-Up.  Two highlights of his athletic career include being named to the 2000 Santa Rosa Community College Athletic Hall of Fame and the 2010 Rancho Cotate High School Hall of Fame for his athletic accomplishments in Basketball and in Track and Field.

Kamaka currently serves the membership of the California Community College Cross Country and Track Coaches Association (5CTCA) as the Track and Field President.  He previously served as Vice President and will conclude his 6 year term, with two years as Cross Country President. 

A native of Hawaii, Kamaka received his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Sonoma State University and his master’s degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University.  In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, travel and meeting new people.  He currently resides in Irvine with his lovely wife Lynda.  They are proud parents of 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren.
