
Brea, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Cross Country Team began the 2025 season with an impressive fourth-place finish at the Mark Covert Classic at Carbon Canyon Regional Park on Saturday, August 30. Competing in a challenging 6k race against high-caliber competition that included top NCAA Division I and II programs such as Cal State Fullerton, Loyola Marymount, Chapman, UNLV and South Nevada - the Mounties held their own with a team score of 92 points.
Cal State Fullerton hosted the meet and claimed the top spot with 33 points.
Mt. SAC posted a team time of 1:51:50, averaging 22:22 per runner and a 6:00 mile pace. The Mounties demonstrated consistency with a 5-runner gap of 1:32.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Reyes led the charge for the Mounties, breaking into the top ten with a strong 10th place finish in 21:38.7 and Jessica Vigil wasn't far behind, taking 13th in 21:48.1. Casey McConn finished 23rd (22:33.6), team captain Sophia Ebiner in 26th (22:38.7) and Jocelyn Izarraraz-Rodriguez in 42nd (23:10.2). Jasmine Brandyberry (45th – 23:21.8) and Rebekah Cueva (59th – 24:11.3) rounded out the top seven, contributing to the team's overall score and depth.
With a strong first showing behind them, the Mounties will now turn their attention to the Oxnard Invitational on Friday, September 5.
