Women's Cross Country earns SCC title, prepares for Southern California Regionals

(Compton, CA) Occupying eight of the top 10 individual spots, the Mt. SAC Women's Cross Country team claimed the South Coast Conference title at the conference championships at Wilson Park in Compton on Friday. The Mounties tallied 20 points to finish first, while Cerritos and Los Angeles Harbor scored 48 and 93 points, respectively to finish second and third.

Were it not for a first-place finish by Cerritos' Lauren Berg (19:06.2), Mt. SAC runners would have occupied the top seven individual spots. As it was, however, the Mounties turned in performances that placed eight runners in the top 10.

Those top finishers included Hannah Brown (2nd place, 19:33.0), Amanda Crowell (3rd, 19:49.6), Kaitlyn Atkinson (4th, 19:56.8), Claudia Vera (5th, 20:04.4), Jessica Mojarro-Salinas (6th, 20:20.3), Gaby Cerrillos (7th, 20:33.2), Allison Gutierrez (8th, 20:34.3) and Karla Galvan (10th, 20:45.3).

As the state's No. 1 team, the Mounties return to action at the Southern California Regional Championships at Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley on Friday, Nov. 5, at 9 a.m.
