(Santa Clarita, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Cross Country Team captured the 2017 CCCAA Southern California Regional Championship, Friday at Central Park in Santa Clarita.

The Mounties, winners of the South Coast Conference Championship, Mt. SAC Invite and the Tour de Cuesta Invite in the last month, placed all five scoring runners in the top 26 positions, en route to a 16-point victory (78-94) over Ventura.

The two top finishers for the Mounties were Olivia Valderrama (19:30) and Teresa Castillo (19:37), who finshed in 8th and 9th place, on the 5 kilometer course.  They were followed by a 13th-place finish from Maria Castello (19:48).

Mt. SAC was the only team to place two runners in the top ten.

Rebecca Ruiz (20:09) and Hannah Batchelor (20:18) finished 23rd and 26th overall out of the 189 runners finishing the championship race.

Mt. SAC will aim for an eighth CCCAA State Championship on Saturday, November 18th, in Fresno.  The Mounties and Head Coach Doug Todd's last state championship came in 2014.
