Mountie Women’s Cross Country Captures 70th Annual Mt. SAC Invitational

(Walnut, CA) The Mountie Women's Cross Country Team captured their third invitational championship of the season at the 70th running of the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational, last Saturday, October 14.

The Mounties finished ahead of 20 other colleges, scoring 27 points, individually claiming the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 8th finishing positions and placing 8 of their 14 runners in the top 20.  Hartnell College was a distant second place with 86 points.

Crossing the line first for the Mounties was Teresa Castillo, with a time of 18:46.  This was Castillo's second week in the row taking the 2nd place position(Tour de Cuesta, 20:06).  Maria Castello, was a close 3rd at 18:50, just 4 seconds behind.

Castillo and Castello were followed by Oliva Valderama, 6th (19:06), Hannah Batchelor, 8th (19:28) and freshman Alyssa Jaurique, 11th (19:38).

The Mounties will now enter the post season, competing next in the South Coast Conference Championships, to be held at Mt. SAC, on Friday, October 27th.  That will be followed by the Southern California Regional's, in Santa Clarita, on November 3rd and finally the CCCAA State Championships, in Fresno, on November 18th.
