Walnut, Calif. – Fresh off a dominant weekend in Fresno where they captured the 3C2A State Dual Championship for the second consecutive year, the Mt. SAC Women's Wrestling Team carried that momentum right back to the mat on Wednesday, March 11, defeating Santa Ana College 36–11 in conference competition.
The Mounties got back to work right away, opening the dual with a series of strong performances and quick victories.
At 103 pounds, Sienna Montanez got Mt. SAC on the board early, securing a pinfall victory over Santa Ana's Ashley Maldonado. The success continued at 110 pounds, where Anika Del Castillo followed with another win by fall, defeating Stephany Zamora.
Mt. SAC added valuable points in the middle of the lineup as Caylee Reyes (117), Janina Morales (124) and Zitlali Sarmiento (131) each earned forfeit victories, giving the Mounties a comfortable lead.
Santa Ana picked up its first win of the evening at 138 pounds, where Anais Nunez Perez recorded a fall over Kylie Martinez.
The Mounties answered at 145 pounds when Tofilau Manaia delivered another highlight moment with a pin over Mattrina Ifopo. Aubrey Hernandez kept the momentum rolling at 160 pounds, adding another fall victory against Hassina Mohammad.
Santa Ana slightly closed the gap late in the dual with decision wins at 180 pounds and 207 pounds, defeating Olivia Marker and Lizzeth Godina, respectively.
Mt. SAC finished the competition with Ava Hetrik securing the final points of the night at 235 pounds with a forfeit, sealing the 36–11 team win for the Mounties.
The victory continues a strong stretch for Mt. SAC, which is riding high after its 3C2A State Dual Championship performance this past weekend.
