Saratoga, Calif. – The Mt. San Antonio College Women's Water Polo Team had a strong showing at the West Valley Invitational, finishing the weekend with a 3-1 record. The performance boosted the Mounties to 5-7 overall, placing them in the middle of the South Coast Conference standings.
GAME 1: Mt. SAC vs. Cuesta – Loss, 11-7
The tournament opener proved to be the toughest challenge, as the Mounties fell 11-7 to No. 10-ranked Cuesta College on Friday, September 12. Jessica Luna and Ava Mercado led the offense with two goals apiece, while Angelina Hernandez, Audree Molenrich, and Nathaly Mora each added one. Goalkeepers Keira Bozek and Riley McPheron split time in the cage, tallying four saves each. The Cougars outshot Mt. SAC 19-13, a key difference in the outcome. Cuesta went undefeated across the weekend, finishing with a perfect 4-0 mark.
GAME 2: Mt. SAC vs. Cabrillo – Win, 7-3
Mt. SAC bounced back later that day with a 7-3 win over the Cabrillo Seahawks. The Mounties set the tone early, scoring four goals in the first quarter—two from Ivey Cervantes and one each from Luna and Mercado. After a scoreless stretch in the second and third quarters, the Mounties sealed the game with three more goals in the fourth (Luna, Mora, and Mercado). Defensively, Bozek and McPheron combined for six saves, while Cabrillo's goalkeeper failed to record a single stop.
GAME 3: Mt. SAC vs. Modesto – Win, 16-9
Saturday, September 13, brought an offensive explosion as the Mounties rolled to a 16-9 victory over Modesto. Mercado led the charge with five goals, followed by Mora with four and Molenrich with three. Kaylee Biehn added a pair, and both Sophia Alamo and Sariah Livingston chipped in one apiece. The Mounties fired 26 shots on goal, converting over 60% of their chances, while Bozek and McPheron combined for eight saves on the defensive end.
GAME 4: Mt. SAC vs. Las Positas – Win, 16-6
Mt. SAC capped off the weekend with a dominant 16-6 win over Las Positas before the seven-hour drive back home to Southern California.
