Mt. SAC Women’s Water Polo Defeats Chaffey, 9-7; Finishes Third in SCC

(Rancho Cucamonga, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo Team finished the regular season in style with a 9-7 win over host Chaffey College, on Wednesday (Oct. 30), in the final South Coast Conference game.

Now bring on the playoffs!

With the win, Mt. SAC (10-9, 5-2) finished third in conference behind undefeated Long Beach City College (7-0) and second place Cerritos (6-1).

The SCC post season tournament begins Thursday (Nov. 7) at Pasadena City College.

Leading the way for the Mounties was Julia Bensing-Ruiz with two goals. Bensing-Ruiz finishes the regular season as the scoring leader for the Mounties with 34 goals. 

Also with two goals was Brianna Baker (21 goals for the season) and Samantha Martinez (7 goals). Scoring single goals was Janel Sepulveda, Madeline Gaitan and Amber Bustamante. Emily Bermudez led the team with three steals in the game.

Earning her seventh win of the season in goal was Victoria Streitenberger.

Mt. SAC led 5-2 at the half, with two goals by Martinez and single goals by Sepulveda, Bensing-Ruiz and Baker.

With 5:34 left in the game, Bensing-Ruiz scored the ninth goal for the Mounties
