Mt. SAC Women’s Water Polo Falls To Cerritos, 22-7

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo team was defeated by the visiting Cerritos Falcons, 22-7, in a South Coast Conference game Wednesday (Oct. 23) at the Marie T. Mills Aquatics Center.

With Mt. SAC trailing by only four goals at the half, Cerritos reeled off nine goals in the third period to extend the lead to 16-5 heading into the final period.

With the loss, the Mounties falls to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in conference, while Cerritos improves to 14-3, 6-0.

Mt. SAC was led by two players with two goals each Bella Robledo and Brianna Baker. Emily Bermudez, Janel Sepulveda and Amber Bustamante added a goal each for the Mounties.

The Falcons scored four consecutive goals to start the game in the opening period for the 4-0 lead, before Sepulveda scored with 23 seconds left, to trail, 4-1

The Mounties stayed close in the second period with two goals by Robledo and trailed, 7-3 at the half, before Cerritos outscored the Mounties, 9-2 in the third period.

Bustamante led the Mounties with five steals in the game.

The Mounties, who hold down third-place in conference behind undefeated Cerritos and Long Beach CC, travel to Chaffey next Wednesday (Oct. 30). The Mounties will play in the Battle at the Beach Tournament this weekend, Oct. 25, 26, at LBCC.
