Mt. SAC Women Water Polo Off to 4-0 Start in SCC Action, Defeat Rio Hondo, 14-4

(Whittier, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo Team remains perfect with a 4-0 start in the South Coast Conference, with a 14-4 victory over host Rio Hondo Wednesday (Oct. 9).

Leading the way for the Mounties was Julia Bensing-Ruiz with a game-high five goals, while attacker Amber Bustamante and Elyana Gonzalez scored three and two goals, respectively.

Mt. SAC, which has won seven out of the last nine games, improves to 7-4 overall and has been averaging 11-goals scored per game.

The game started out close, with a 2-2 tie after the first period. Rio Hondo took a brief, 3-2 lead early in the second period on a goal by June Babishoff (2 goals), but the floodgates opened for the Mounties as they scored 12 consecutive goals for an insurmountable, 14-3 lead, before a late fourth-period goal by the Roadrunners. 

They will continue SCC action with a game at Mt. SAC Wednesday (Oct. 16).
