Mt. SAC Women’s Water Polo Doubles-Up on Cerritos, 16-8

(Walnut, CA) After a close first period, the Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo Team scored 10 goals in the second and third periods and doubled-up on visiting Cerritos College, 16-8 in a South Coast Conference game on Wednesday October 17.

With the win, the Mounties (17-2, 6-1) stand alone in second place and await the outcome of the conference championships on November 1.

Leading the way for the Mounties was Erin DeAnda (1 A, 3 Steals) and Colleen Gamboa (2 A, 1 Stl.) with five and four goals, respectively. Miranda Silva (3 A, 1 Stl.) added three goals.

Goalie Kristi Mertins made nine saves in the win for Mt. SAC. Kaitlin Howard led the team with five steals.

After a close first period and a 3- 2 lead, the Mounties opened up an 8-5 lead at the half.

DeAnda scored three goals in the first half, along with a pair of goals by Gamboa and Silva.

Mt. SAC put the game out of reach in the third period, outscoring the Falcons, 5-1 to take a commanding 13-6 lead heading into the final period.

Gamboa led the team with two goals in the period.

Cerritos managed just two more goals in the fourth period, with Mt. SAC scoring three led by Brianna Baker with two.

After the Battle at the Beach Tournament this past weekend, the Mounties take a week off before the playoffs.
