Mt. SAC Women Water Polo Handle El Camino, 21-5, in South Coast Conference Game

(Walnut, CA) With seven goals in the first period the Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo team cruised to an easy, 21-5, win over visiting El Camino College Wednesday afternoon at the Marie T. Mills Aquatic Center.

The Mounties (3-2, 2-0) were led by sophomore 2-meter player Kayla De Herrera and sophomore attacker Hannah Rueter with four and three goals respectively. Four other Mounties had two goals each.

"We made the game our tempo and took it to our speed and just kept going," De Herrera said.

In the second period the Mounties added another five goals and led at the half, 12-1, as the Warriors (0-2) got on the board early in the second period.

More of the same took place for the Mounties in the third period as sophomore attacker Christina Nunez and Rueter had two goals apiece contributing to six more goals for the insurmountable, 18-3 lead.

Mt. SAC sophomore goalies Grace Barboza and Shelby Garcia made five and three saves respectively in the game and defensively, Paulina Luna (2 goals) led the team with four steals. Three Mounties – Miranda Silva (2 goals, 5 assists), Kaitlin Howard and Rebecca Garcia (goal, 2 assists) had three steals each.

Mt. SAC continues conference action next Wednesday with a home game against Pasadena City College.
