Mounties Make Quick Work of L.A. City in Blowout Sweep

Walnut, Calif. – It was all Mounties, all night, as the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team steamrolled past Los Angeles City College in a quick 3-0 sweep on Wednesday, October 15. The Mounties surrendered just 14 points across all three sets—half of those coming from their own errors. Set scores of 25-7, 25-4, and 25-3 say it all: pure domination.

The win bumps Mt. SAC's overall record to 13-5 and keeps them perfect in South Coast Conference (SCC) play at 4-0. Meanwhile, the Cubs drop to 1-13 overall and 0-4 in the SCC.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

L.A. City College opened the match with the first point, but the momentum quickly shifted as Brianna Reyna led a six-serve streak to help the Mounties build a 6-2 lead. Sydney Valentine took control from there, recording several kills en route to a match-high 14—double the total kills from the entire LACC team. Libero Maya Tiscareno added an 11-serve run, and a service ace from setter Morgan Wilson sealed the first set. Mt. SAC hit .400 in the opener with 16 kills, while LACC managed just 2 kills and hit -.250.

Set two saw more of the same. Reyna sparked another six-point streak from the service line, followed by strong offensive play from Kacey Worcester. Setter Isabella Ross then delivered an 11-serve streak to extend the lead to 20-4. Valentine capped off the set with back-to-back service aces, as Mt. SAC posted a flawless 13 kills on 19 attempts (.684 hitting percentage).

In the third and final set, LACC managed just three points. Reyna once again dominated from the service line, delivering 14 consecutive serves to close the match. Eva Fisher and Brittney Okorie added key kills as the Mounties wrapped up the sweep. Mt. SAC hit .476 in the final frame, collecting 11 kills on 21 swings.

The Mounties outperformed L.A. City College across the board, finishing the match with 40 total kills and an impressive .500 hitting percentage, compared to the Cubs' 7 kills and a -.177 percentage. Mt. SAC tallied 37 assists and 14 service aces, while the Cubs had just 6 assists and no aces. Defensively, the Mounties recorded 32 digs and 5 total blocks, outpacing LACC's 21 digs and single block. Notably, Mt. SAC committed zero serve receive errors, whereas LACC struggled with 14.
