
Riverside, Calif. – The Mt. San Antonio College Volleyball Team walked away with a 3-0 sweep over Riverside City College on Friday, September 12. With the win, the Mounties improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 2-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first set was the closest of the three, finishing at a tight 25-23. The Mounties tallied 16 kills with a .452 hitting percentage, edging out the Tigers, who hit .371. Both teams traded points throughout the set, but key kills from Emma Carson, Yaretzi Silva, and Sydney Valentine kept Mt. SAC slightly ahead.
After Riverside tied it at 12-12 with a service ace from Savannah Smith, Mt. SAC responded with a 4-point run, capitalizing on two attack errors by Natalia Arvizu. While Riverside continued to fight and tied the score several times, Mt. SAC ultimately closed the set with kills by Silva and Valentine to take the opener.
In the second set, the Mounties dominated with an 11-point win, taking the set 25-14. Riverside struggled offensively, finishing with a -.034 hitting percentage. Morgan Wilson set the tone with two service aces, while Valentine and Silva added timely kills to extend the lead.
Carson took over late in the set, serving seven straight points, while Eva Fisher and Silva formed a solid front-line block. Mt. SAC closed out the set convincingly, showcasing their dominance in all phases of the game.
The Mounties quickly took control in the third set, powered by strong net play from Carson, Brittney Okorie, and Valentine. A series of Riverside errors helped Mt. SAC jump to a 12-5 lead, prompting an early timeout from the Tigers.
Riverside mounted a late rally with kills from Savannah Smith and Jayden Franchere, narrowing the gap to 22-20. But Mt. SAC stayed composed, finishing the match with a kill by Carson followed by two consecutive attack errors from Sara Brittin, securing the set 25-20 and completing the sweep.
