(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team continued its winning streak, after defeating visiting Cerritos College, Tuesday (November 2), 3-0, in a South Coast Conference match.

With the win over the Falcons, No. 8 Mt. SAC improved to 17-5 overall and 11-3 in the conference, and is in the midst of a five-match winning streak and has won 11 out of the last 12.

"This win (25-23, 25-15, 25-20) was huge for us, in the fact that we were able to do it in a sweep, just like (Cerritos) did last time," Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball coach Samantha Neely said. "The fact that one month later we've grown, we've been able to adjust and we've been able to execute.

"Something that I was proud of the girls (Tuesday) was that we've really focused on some new plays and they executed nicely and we scored on a lot of them. That's exciting going into playoffs."

Three Mounties had 10 kills each – JJ Quarrels (11 Digs, 1 Service Ace), Riley DeGroot (10 D, 3 SA), and Allison Whiteman (9 D), while Riannel Arevalo led the Mounties with 19 digs.

"This win keeps us in second place in the conference and we definitely wanted to win this match because we lost to Cerritos last time," Mt. SAC freshman setter Ally Euston said.

Euston had a team-high 32 assists for Mt. SAC.

"I just try to feed whoever is hitting the best," she said. "Allison (Whiteman) did really well (Tuesday). She always has a really high hitting percentage. Riley (DeGroot) and JJ (Quarrels) also did really well.

"I just try to be smart and see whoever is hot."

In the opening set, the Mounties opened up a 9-2 lead, but Cerritos (10-7, 6-5) crawled back and tied it at 14-14.

The Falcons, with a 6-2 run, took the lead by four points, 20-16. Led by two kills from DeGroot, the Mounties ran off four consecutive points to tie it at 20-20.

DeGroot finished off the Falcons with two more kills to end the set.

In the second set, the Mounties again took a big lead, 13-5, and never looked back, winning by 10 points. After a big kill by Whiteman for the 20-14 lead, DeGroot served four consecutive winners, including two service aces and led, 23-14.

Quarrels had a kill and Cerritos had an error at the net to end the set for the 2-0 Mt. SAC lead.

The third set was close up until the 11-11 tie before the Mounties stretched the lead to 20-14.

The Falcons hung around, but DeGroot and Whiteman highlighted the end of the match with kills.

The Mounties finish the regular season with two away matches at Rio Hondo and East L.A., before the conference tournament begins.
