(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team opened South Coast Conference action Friday (September 17), and went the distance in a five-set marathon, but fell to Pasadena City College, 3-2.

The loss also broke a five-match winning streak and it was the first time the Mounties (6-3, 0-1) dropped a set in five home matches.

The Lancers (7-1, 2-0) defeated Mt. SAC, 25-16, 18-25, 20-25, 25-13, 15-12.

After dropping the opening set, the Mounties won the next two but dropped the final two sets.

Allison Whiteman (1 Service Ace, 14 Digs) and Riley DeGroot (2 D) had 15 and 12 kills, respectively.

Michelle Walters added eight kills and five digs, while Raeven Pugh had six kills.

Ally Euston (1 K, 1 SA, 7 D) had 20 assists, which was just four shy of the whole Lancers team.

Riannel Arevalo had a team-high 18 digs.

In the opening set trailing, 15-10, Whiteman was serving and the Mounties won three straight points to close within two points, 15-13. But, PCC went on a five-point run to build up a 20-13 advantage and the Mounties couldn't come back.

Mt. SAC took a 2-1 set lead with 23 kills in the two sets. Leading the way in the two sets was Whiteman with seven kills, followed by four each from DeGroot, Pugh, and Walters.

The fourth set was all Lancers as they built up a 17-4 lead, behind runs of eight and five consecutive points each.

They won the set by 12 points, 25-13.

The fifth and deciding set was a back-and-forth affair with five ties.

The Mounties had a late, two-point lead, 10-8, on a kill by DeGroot. After PCC took a 12-11 lead, DeGroot again came through with a big kill, this time tying up the set, 12-12.

However, PCC finished off the match with three consecutive points. The Mounties hit the last two points out of bounds to end the match.

Mt. SAC continues SCC action with a match at Cerritos, Wednesday, September 22.
