Mt. SAC Women’s Volleyball Begins South Coast Conference North with 3-1 Win over East L.A.

(Monterey Park, CA) The defending 2016 South Coast Conference North champion Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team started where they left off last season with a 3-1 win over East Los Angeles College Wednesday evening.

The Mounties (7-10, 1-0), dating back to the 2015 season, won their 11th consecutive conference match with a 25-21, 25-14, 32-34, 25-22 win.

"The team pulled together at the end and powered through to hold off a tough ELAC squad," Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball coach Ali Carey-Oliver said.

Mt. SAC middle blocker Jordon Wilson led all players with a match-high 20 kills, the most all season for the sophomore. Wilson has amassed 153 kills on the season.

Freshman outside hitter Sierra Lujan had 10 kills and six digs while freshman setter Brianda Valdez had 25 assists, including three service aces and two digs.

Freshman defensive specialist Malia Carr had 25 digs and a service ace, while freshman outside hitter Saipeti Fuiava had 21 assists and two service aces.

Mt. SAC, after a 2-0 lead in games, played the longest set dating back in over five years (last records) and fell, 34-32. The Mounties won a set, 30-28 in 2015 over Pasadena City College. In that marathon set both teams combined for 38 kills.

The Mounties won the fourth set 25-22 for the match victory.

The Mounties continue SCC North action this Friday October 6 at home against Chaffey with a 6:00 pm match.
