Mt. SAC Women’s Track and Field Finishes Fourth at State Championship

San Mateo, Calif. –  After three consecutive years atop the podium, the Mt. San Antonio College Women's Track and Field Team concluded this year's 3C2A State Championship with a fourth-place overall finish. Held May 16–17 at San Mateo College, the event saw Modesto Junior College take home the title with 91.5 points, followed by Riverside City College (75 points) and San Diego Mesa College (74 points). The Mounties secured 62 points, earning a top-five finish ahead of Cerritos College (53 points).

Mt. SAC's athletes showed depth, resilience and competitive spirit across a wide range of events. Maya Rush delivered the team's only state title, dominating the javelin with a throw of 142' 4". In the triple jump, Alessandra Jefferson landed in second place with a mark of 37' 8", while Sofia Di Marco cleared 11' 7 ¾" in the pole vault to take third. Samantha Diener also earned points for the Mounties in the pole vault, tying for seventh at 10' 8".

In distance events, Tigist Bergman placed fifth in the 10,000-meter run (38:50.01), while Yadira Arnold and Ava Cornell delivered a strong showing in the steeplechase, finishing second (11:29.37) and sixth (11:49.55), respectively. Kaitlyn Reyes ran to a seventh-place finish in the 1500 meters (4:55.12).

The hurdles and relay events saw more contributions from the Mounties. Alyssah Johnson and Carlota Romay Rega placed sixth (1:05.03) and seventh (1:07.88), respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles. The 4x100 relay team—comprising Bianca Peralta, Enessah Hawkins, Megan Stauffer, and Leila Champion—finished seventh overall with a time of 49.11 seconds.

Carlota Romay Rega proved to be one of the most versatile athletes of the weekend. In addition to her third-place finish in the high jump (5' 1"), she placed fifth in the heptathlon with 3,781 points. Her heptathlon highlights included winning the high jump (5' 3 ¼") and placing second in the 800 meters (2:33.52). Teammate Alessandra Jefferson also competed in the heptathlon, finishing sixth overall with 3,741 points, including standout performances in the long jump (third – 16' 6") and javelin (fourth – 91' 2").

The Mt. SAC women's team demonstrated impressive talent and consistency throughout the competition. Their fourth-place finish reflects the team's continued competitiveness in the state and sets the stage for a strong return in future seasons.
