Mt. SAC Women's Track and Field Opens 2020 Season and RCC Early Bird Meet

(Riverside, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Track and Field Team opened its 2020 schedule at the Riverside City College Early Bird meet on Friday, Feb. 7, placing fourth as a team with 89 points. California State University San Bernardino took first at the four-team meet, tallying 191 points, while Riverside and San Diego Mesa placed second and third with 158 and 134 points, respectively.

Here's a rundown of the top Mountie performances of the day:

Janiah Brown captured first place in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:37.35, while teammate Elizabeth Chidester placed third, clocking in at 1:45.94.

In the mile run, Yesenia Flores turned in a time of 5:43.67, good enough to place second, and Daniela De La Torre Garcia placed fourth at 5:47.50.

Flores also performed well in the two-mile run, placing second with a time of 12:16.05. Kaitlyn Atkinson took third in the event, recording a time of 12:47.83.

Athena Perla finished second in the 400-meter hurdles, turning in a time of 1:11.23.

Carly Ewing cleared a height of 3.05 meters in the pole vault, claiming second place.

In the shot put, Chidester's 10.75-meter throw earned her a third-place finish.

The Mounties will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Cerritos Opener at Cerritos College.
