(Torrance, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Track & Field Team dominated the running events in the South Coast Conference Championships, but fell short to Cerritos College on Friday April 27 at El Camino College.
The Mounties, who came away with 10 champions in the running events, placed second with 319 points. The Falcons, who were strong in the field events, finished with 357 points.
Two Mounties came away with multiple victories as distance specialist Rebecca Ruiz won the 5,000 (18:31.76) and 10,000 (39:23.48) meter races, while hurdles specialist Brittany Mitchell won both the 100 (14.41) and 400 (1:00.27) hurdles races.
Teresa Castillo won the other distance race, the 1,500 in 4:48.08.
Chelsey Woodson and Teuila Gardner won the 400 (56.14) and 800 (2:18.37) meter races, respectively. The 3,000 meter steeplechase was won by Kimberly Solorio in a time of 11:54.07 and the Mounties won both relays, the 4 X11 and 4 X 400.
Mt. SAC's lone winner in the field events was Brianna Aguirre in the pole vault with a vault of 3.35 meters (10'11"). The Mounties swept the top three places with Julianne Perez and Amy Campos with vaults of 3.20m (10'06") and 3.05m (10') for second and third place.
The Mounties will next compete at the CCCAA SoCal Championships on Friday May 5 with the preliminaries and then Friday May 12 with the finals held at San Diego Mesa College.
