(Sacramento, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Track & Field Program improved on their 4th place finish last season to take 3rd place at the 2017 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships. The Mounties were led by sophomores Kieana Butler (100M, 11.93), Julia Sambvani (400M Hurdles, 1:02.54) and Teuila Gardner (800M, 2:16.16), who each placed second in their respective events. The team finished with 75 points in the field of 53 teams that competed in the hot summer weather at American River College (Sacramento, CA).
In the relays, Mt. SAC took 2nd in the 4X100 meter relay with the team of Kieana Butler, Rahmah Baaree, Victoria Sandoval and Julia Sambvani. Mt. SAC also took 5th in the 4X400 meter relay with the team of Lenaya Griffin, Kayla Gibson, Julia Sambvani and Teuila Gardner.
All but one of the team points scored came on the track, with 13 points coming from the 100 meters where Mt. SAC had three point scorers - Kieana Butler (2nd), Rahmah Baaree (5th) and Julia Sambvani (8th).
