Chen Leads Mt. SAC Women’s Swimming in South Coast Conference Pentathlon

(Walnut, CA) In a preview for the upcoming 2020 South Coast Conference Women's Swimming and Diving competition, Mountie freshman Valerie Chen came home with a second, two thirds and a fourth in the five-event non-scoring Pentathlon Friday (Feb. 14) at Mt. SAC's Marie T. Mills Aquatics Center.

Seventy three swimmers, from the seven SCC schools, competed in the Pentathlon. Each swimmer took part in all five events.

The 200 Medley Relay team, consisting of Chen, Julia Bensing-Ruiz, Lauren Chung and Colleen Gamboa placed second with a time of 2:09.45.

Chen's best finish of the day came in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:13.95 for second place. Her other best was a third in the 200 Individual Medley (2:25.36), a third in the 100 Butterfly (1:05.31) and a fourth in the 100 Free (1:00.06).

Freshman Mirielle Lira placed fourth in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:10.59.

Next up for the Mountie swimmers will be the 35th Annual Mt. SAC Invitational in the three-day event (Feb. 20-22).
