Mountie Women in First in SCC Swimming & Diving Championships after Day One

(Walnut, CA) After Day One of the South Coast Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, the Mt. SAC Women hold a 53-point lead in first place over Pasadena City College.

Mt. SAC, which won the SCC title last year, is in first with 192 points, followed by PCC and El Camino in second and third respectively.

Freshman Ashley Tse was the only individual Mountie to claim a championship with a first-place finish in the 200 IM with a conference record-breaking time of 2:03.97. Tse broke the previous record of 2:07.76 set in 2014. 

Also taking a conference title was the 400 Medley Relay team (4:02.73), seventeen seconds ahead of the second-place team. The four swimmers, comprised of two freshmen and two sophomores, were Jerica Djapri, Tse, Nikita Rubio and Erin DeAnda.

The Mounties began the day with a second place finish in the 200 Free Relay, three seconds behind first-place PCC.

Alexis Aquirre, Julia Nicholson, Rubio and Djapri finished with a time of 1:45.71.

Mt. SAC also had two swimmers (Aguirre and DeAnda) take second place in the 500 and 50 Freestyle, respectively. Nicholson placed third in the 500 for the Mounties.

In the 200 IM, Rubio finished in fourth for the Mounties and Valerie Villarosa was fourth in the 3-Meter Diving event.

The SCC Championships continues on Friday, April 20 with prelims in the morning session and finals in the afternoon in the 200 Medley Relay and 800 Free Relay and five individual finals.
