(Walnut, CA) Day one of three is in the books and the Mt. SAC Women's Swimming and Diving team is already knocking on the door for first place in the South Coast Conference Championships held at the Marie T. Mills Aquatic Center Thursday afternoon.

El Camino College (212 pts.) holds a slim 1.5 point lead over Mt. SAC (210.5) after six of 20 events in the three-day championships.

"We had great swims and actually captured a few more points than expected," Mt. SAC Women's Swimming and Diving coach Chris Jackson said.

The two-time defending conference champion Mounties were led by two individual second place finishes from freshman Angelica Quesada in the 500 Freestyle (5:23.61) and sophomore Kaitlyn Dickinson in the 200 Individual Medley (2:16.52).

In addition, the Mt. SAC 400 Medley Relay team (4:13.93) was just out-touched by Pasadena City College by 22 hundredths of a second to finish in second. The Mounties team consisted of Jerica Djapri (FR), Nikita Rubio (FR), Jazzie Hernandez (SO) and Kaitlyn Dickinson (SO).

The 200 Free Relay team, consisting of Djapri, Rubio, Breana Delgadillo (SO) and Quesada, placed third for 32 points with a time of 1:44.87, just over three seconds behind first-place El Camino.

The Mounties also picked up 63 points for a 1st (Haley Service – FR), 3rd (Melody Waintal – SO), 5th (Brittney Franco – FR) and 6th (Valarie Villar – FR) in the 1 Meter Diving from last weekends' SCC Diving Championships.

On the second day, eight events will take place, which include: two Relays (200 Medley and 800 Free), 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Free, 100 Breastroke, 100 Backstroke and the 3 Meter Diving results from last weekend.
