Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team saw its unbeaten run come to an end on Friday, September 19, in a narrow 2-1 defeat to Santa Barbara. With the loss, the Mounties drop to 4-1-3 but remain atop the South Coast Conference North Division, while the Vaqueros improve to 5-3, holding first place in the Western State North Division.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In what was a tightly contested and physical match, both teams were held scoreless through the first 70 minutes. Santa Barbara broke through first in the 71st minute, when Zoe Minnery put the Vaqueros ahead 1-0.

Mt. SAC showed resilience, responding in the 84th minute with an equalizer from Yuliana Jimenez, assisted by Eden Ramirez, to level the match at 1-1.

However, the Mounties were dealt a crushing blow in the final moments, as Santa Barbara scored the game-winner in the 90th minute to seal the win.

Goalkeeper Zanette Gonzalez recorded two saves in a strong effort to keep the Mounties within striking distance. Sofia Torres and Samantha Sanchez were both issued yellow cards in a match marked by intense competition on both ends.

Mt. SAC looks to bounce back on Wednesday, September 24, as they hit the road to face Cypress College (5-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
