Coach Juan Sanchez To Join Women's Soccer As Interim Head Coach

Coach Juan Sanchez will now dedicate a portion of his time with the Mountie Women?s Soccer Program.
Coach Juan Sanchez will join the Mountie Women’s Soccer Program as Interim Head Coach.

(Walnut, CA)  With over 2 decades of coaching experience and 17 years of experience guiding the successful Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Program, Coach Juan Sanchez will now dedicate a portion of his time with the Mountie Women's Soccer Program.  Sanchez will continue as Head Coach of the Men's Program, but will share his knowledge and wisdom with the Mountie Women as Interim Head Coach.

SAC Athletics Director Joe Jennum.  "Coach Sanchez's record and championships speaks for itself.  His incredible insight of the game, connections to the community and championship winning ways will help grow the women's program."

While only working with the men's program at Mt. SAC, Sanchez has also worked with and guided a number of local girls club soccer programs through the years. He is currently the Arsenal ECNL 2005 Head Girls Coach and assists with the 2003 Arsenal Girls.  Through the years he has guided various girls teams to numerous prestigious championships and tournaments including the 2014 Coast Soccer League Championships (2003 girls), 2015 State Cup President Final (2003 girls), 2016 Coast Soccer League Cup Finalist (2005 girls), 2017 State Cup Presidents Championship (2005 girls), 2019 Californai Regional League Championship (2005 girls), 2019 National Cup Semi-Finalist (2005 girls) and this year qualified for the Far West Regional Tournament in Boise (ID).

"I am honored that Joe Jennum asked me to colloborate with and join the women's soccer program," replied Sanchez. 

Sanchez has led the Mountie Men's Soccer Program to five California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships and two United Soccer Coaches Association (formerly the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA)) National Community College Championships.  Since his arrival at Mt. SAC, his teams have dominated the California Community College soccer scene and have advanced to the final four of the state championships, an amazing 11 times.  Sanchez, along with George Avakian of Foothill College, are the winningest men's soccer coaches in CCCAA History with five state championships apiece. 

His teams have earned a total of 12 South Coast Conference (SCC) Championships and he has been named SCC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year a total of nine times.  He has also been named SCC All-Sports Coach of the Year twice.  In 2009, Sanchez reached the pinnacle of his coaching career, when he was named United Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Junior College National Coach of the Year.

Sanchez has also led the development program of Chivas USA and a number of other club programs in the Southland.

Sanchez earned his bachelor's degree in Physical Education from California State University at Los Angeles and his Master's Degree in Education from the University of La Verne.  A student of his sport, he holds a USSF "A" Coaching License, USA Soccer's highest level license.
