Women's Soccer Earns Shutout vs Pasadena City College, 5-0, in SCC North

(WALNUT) – Balanced scoring was the name of the game Tuesday for the Mt. San Antonio College Women's Soccer team in their opening game of South Coast Conference North action.

The Mounties, behind their defense and sophomore goalie Britain Chaputa, shutout visiting Pasadena City College, 5-0, Tuesday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Mounties was freshman forward Viviana Ortega with a goal and two assists.

Mt. SAC upped its record to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in conference and PCC, which had been unbeaten in the last five games, fell to 2-4-3 and 0-1.

Sophomore midfielder Samantha Barreto got the scoring started in the 4th minute to lead, 1-0, on a goal assisted by Ortega. The goal was Barreto's third of the season.

Freshman midfielder Hallie Culotti followed with an unassisted goal just four minutes later for a 2-0 lead.

With the 2-0 lead at the half the Mounties added three more goals in the second half. Ortega, with her first goal of the season, scored just after the second half began at the 46th minute to push the lead to 3-0.

Freshman center forward Evette Luna scored in the 80th minute on an assist from midfielder Aurora Barbosa. Freshman forward India Hines followed in the 88th minute with a goal on an assist from Ortega.

Chaputa made four saves in the game to even her record at 2-2 for the season.

The Mountie women will travel to Chaffey College Tuesday October 4 for a 2:00 p.m. game and return home Friday Oct. 7 to host Rio Hondo College at 4:00 p.m. Both are conference contests.
