Mountie wrestling finishes third at the West Hills Tournament: Seanz wins the 133 weight class

(Lemoore, CA) For the first tournament of the 2022 season, the Mt. SAC Wrestling team finished third at the Annual West Hills Tournament, Saturday (September 24).

Sixteen-time CCCAA State Champion Fresno City College (211.5) took home the tournament title, followed by Cerritos (165) and Mt. SAC (157.5).

Mt. SAC'S lone champion came in the 133 Lb. class from sophomore David Saenz, who was 4-0 in the tournament. Saenz, who came in as the No. 1 Seed, received a first-round bye and won two out of his three matches leading up to the finals by way of pins. The other was a 16-0 technical fall.

In the final, Saenz won by decision with a 9-3 score over No. 2 Seed Devin Murphy of FCC.

In addition to the first-place win, the Mounties had two second, third and fourth-place finishers.

Billy Looney and Nate Kendricks placed second in the 149 and 197 weight classes, respectively.

Finishing in third place were Jason Valencia (141) and Caidence Turner (165) and the two fourth-place finishers were Christopher Calderon (125) and Jakob Hand (184).

Mt. SAC travels to the Santa Ana College Tournament on Saturday, October 1.
