Mt. SAC Wrestlers Take Third in Modesto Tournament!

(MODESTO) The Mt. SAC Wresting team traveled to Modesto for the Annual Mike Tamana Invitational and came away with a third place finish, behind two individual champions.

Sophomore Kevin Kelly won the 141 lb. weight class and sophomore Casper Sherow came away with a title in the 149 lb. weight class.

Sherow is currently ranked third in the state, according to the latest CACC poll.

In addition to the two individual champions, the Mounties came away with five other placers:

Herrera is currently ranked 7th in the state CACC poll.

"I really thought we didn't capitalize on all of the opportunities to score and it cost some of the guys at the end of their match," wrestling coach David Rivera said. "But we just need to continue improving each week."

The Mounties now turn their attention to defending their Southern California Dual Team Championship to be held at Palomar College in San Marcos this Saturday. Competition begins at 10:00 a.m.

"We are really looking forward to this upcoming weekend to test our team and have some intense fun on the mat," Rivera said.

Mt. SAC defeated Palomar last year, 22-15, in the So Cal's to advance to the state CCCAA championships, in which they also won when they defeated Fresno City College, 20-19.

Roy Galvan named CACC Wrestler of the Week

Galvan, a freshman, has been named CACC Tech-Fall Wrestler of the Week for the week of October 5.
