(Morro Bay, CA) All season long the Loera twins, Kayla and Kaitlyn, have led the Mt. SAC Women's Golf team and they both finished their freshman season representing the Mounties in the CCCAA State Championships.

The championships held on Sunday and Monday (November 13 & 14) at the Morro Bay Golf Club had eight colleges and 57 golfers competing on the 5,633-yard, Par-72 course.

Kayla Loera, who averaged 79.3 in the Orange Empire Conference this year, finished 17th overall at state with a two-day total of 169. She finished tied for 10th with an 85 on Day 1 and carded an 84 on Day 2.

Kaitlyn Loera finished in a three-way tie for 26th place with a two-day total of 174. She finished in an 8-way tie on Day 1 with an 89 and improved by four strokes on the final day with an 85. Kaitlyn averaged 83.9 for the season in the OEC.

The overall medalist for the event was College of the Canyons' Motoka Shimoji with a 154 (76-78). She won in a tiebreaker.

College of the Canyons, which led with a 10-stroke lead after the first day, finished second overall.

Modesto Junior College (666), which trailed by 19 strokes and was in fifth place after the first round, had an impressive second day, finished 21 strokes better than COC (668), and won its second consecutive title by two strokes.

It was also the third championship for Modesto since 2017.

Finishing the top five teams were Saddleback, 3rd (672), Reedley, 4th (685) and Napa Valley, 5th (693).
