Mounties open season at the Cuyamaca Invitational, August 30

(Walnut, CA) The long wait is finally over, as the Mt. SAC Women's Golf team is ready to hit the links for the first time since the CCCAA State Championships in November of 2019.

Three players, Precious Saelee, Cristina Liu and Katherine Chan, all represented the Mounties at the state finals in Morro Bay. All three have moved on from the program.

The first event will be the Cuyamaca Invitational at Singing Hill Golf Club in El Cajon, CA on Monday, August 30.

"The 2021 Mt. SAC Women's Golf team will be all ladies who have gone through a lot of waiting for this season," Mt. SAC coach Greg Osbourne said.

Only one returner from that 2019 squad remains with the team, sophomore Kima Blake.

In addition, freshman Payton Dawson, who is a "……tremendous team leader," Osbourne added, will be the team captain.

Osbourne, a PGA member, also said of freshman Jule Gutierrez, "……a very talented golfer," and another "talented freshman," Emilia Hickman, "….who will gain experience quickly" and a "…solid golfer," Lin Qi, will also compete for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC will again compete in the Orange Empire Conference, along with Cuyamaca College, Mt. San Jacinto, Saddleback, College of the Desert, Orange Coast College and Fullerton College.

The seven-team conference will start with the first OEC event in early September at Soboba Springs Country Club in San Jacinto. It will conclude with the conference tournament at Menifee Lakes (Nov. 1 & 3), So Cal Regionals at Sundale CC in Bakersfield (Nov. 8 &10) and the CCCAA State Championships at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande (Nov. 14 & 15).

Mt. SAC will again play at its home course, "……at the wonderful Via Verde CC."
