A “Precious” Finish for Mt. SAC Golfer Saelee Who Wins OEC Tournament and is Named Player of the Year

Mt. SAC Women's Golf 2nd Place finish in OEC

(Chino Hills, CA) After eleven rounds, 198 holes and season-long steady golf play, Mt. SAC freshman Precious Saelee captured the Orange Empire Conference Individual Championship and Player of the Year honors with a 75.9 average.

Saelee was low medalist in both OEC Championship rounds at Los Serranos Country Club on Monday and Wednesday (Oct. 28, 30).

On day 1 she carded a 76 and shot an 80 on day 2 for a two-day total of 156.

Saelee's performance led Mt. SAC (61-16) to a tie for second in the final conference standings with Saddleback (61-16). College of the Desert (76-1), in its first year in the OEC, easily finished in first with a near-perfect season.

"I'm so proud of these ladies," replied Mt. SAC Women's Golf Coach Greg Osbourne. "They always fought hard and supported each other."

"Three ladies made all-conference and our No. 1 is Player of the Year. Fantastic! Precious (Saelee) is an outstanding person and player. It has been a pleasure to have her as a Mountie."

Osbourne was excited about his teams' chances to advance in the post season.

"We now have a chance to make it to the CCCAA State Championship. If Precious can play her game, she can win the Southern California Regionals and possibly the state."

On day 1 of the championships, COD finished first with a team score of 329, while the Mounties (353) were a distant 24 strokes back. On day 2, Mt. SAC fired a team-best 356, eight strokes better than Saddleback (364) for first place.

Mt. SAC team captains Cristina Liu and Katherine Chan carded 90 and 92, respectively.

"Cristina and Katherine both earned all-conference honors and will give a great effort to help us advance," Osbourne added.

They were followed by Lisa Romero (94), Malaysia Thompson (97) and Kima Blake (109).

The top three teams - College of the Desert, Saddleback and Mt. SAC - all qualified for the CCCAA Southern California Regionals which will be hosted by the Mounties at Viva Verde Country Club (San Dimas, CA) and will begin on Sunday (Nov. 10) and conclude Monday (Nov. 11).  The top four teams, out of the nine entered, will advance to the CCCAA State Championships on Nov. 17-18, at the Morro Bay Golf Course.
