Mountie Women's Golf takes 3rd Place at Orange Empire Conference Opening Match

Precious Saelee shoots 74 - low medalist

(Palm Desert, CA) Mt. SAC's number one golfer, Precious Saelee, remains on a "hot streak" to start the season in more than one way.

In the last three rounds of golf, Mt. SAC has battled the elements in the desert with temperatures in the triple digits and Saelee has conquered them with an average 73.6 per round.

"She is such a great competitor and is focused," Mt. SAC Women's Golf Coach Greg Osbourne said.

The latest was a first-place finish in a 110 degree weather in the initial Orange Empire Conference (OEC) match of the season at the Par 72 Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, as she carded a 74. The Mounties finished third (356) in the newly revamped OEC, behind College of the Desert (328) and second-place Saddleback (349).

On her first nine holes, Saelee opened with three consecutive pars and finished with two birdies and two more pars for a 1-over (37). After the turn, she shot a near-perfect final nine holes with another 1-over (37). That included eight pars along with one bogey.

In fact, since her opening round of college golf in the South Coast Classic when the freshman shot an 82, she has had four rounds in the low 70's (71-74-73-74) for a 73 average. That included a second-place finish in the Desert Classic Aug. 31.

The remaining three scoring players for the Mounties were Cristina Liu (90), Katherine Chan (93) and Lisa Romero (99). Non-scoring players were Malaysia Thompson (102) and Kima Blake (105).

Mt. SAC continues OEC play Monday Sept. 9 at Soboba Springs with Mt. San Jacinto hosting the second match of the season.
