Los Angeles, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team wrapped up the first round of South Coast Conference North play with a 70–48 road victory over LA Trade-Tech on Friday, January 30. With the win, the Mounties improved to an impressive 23–1 overall record and remained unbeaten in conference play at 4–0, while the Beavers dropped to 16–7 overall and 1–2 in SCC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LA Trade-Tech struck first with an early three-pointer, but that brief lead was short-lived. Dylan Tse quickly answered with a three of her own, sparking a Mt. SAC run that also included a pair of free throws and a layup from Elizabeth Udeze. Taliyah McFerson made her presence felt early, scoring six points and pulling down three rebounds in the opening quarter as the Mounties jumped out to a 15–7 advantage.
Mt. SAC continued to build momentum in the second quarter behind Tierra Taylor, who scored 11 points in the period, including three shots from beyond the arc. Despite contributions from Haylie Segarra and Athieng Bol, who combined for 10 points for the Beavers, the Mounties maintained control and carried a 34–25 lead into halftime.
The Beavers made a push to open the third quarter, cutting the deficit to five after free throws from Erin Jackson and a layup by Jada Kindle. Mt. SAC responded with a balanced offensive effort, matching LA Trade-Tech point for point in the quarter and taking a 53–42 lead into the final frame.
The Mounties put the game away in the fourth quarter with strong defense and poise at the free-throw line. Udeze scored eight points in the period, including four from the stripe, while McFerson controlled the glass with five rebounds to limit second-chance opportunities. Holding the Beavers to just six points in the final quarter, Mt. SAC put this one away with a 70–48 victory.
